So, what to wear to New York Fashion Week? On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the
Wear Your Label show hosted by
AMCONYC and it was fabulous! If you haven't checked out that post yet, you can find it here-
Wear Your Label NYFW Recap. The event was so powerful and I had so much to say about the collection, the designers, and the subject of mental health- so I decided to post my event coverage and what I wore separately. Plus, I wanted to do a full write-up on blanket scarves for you all!
Two of the big Fall 2015 trends that I have really been loving are blanket scarves and ponchos. It's a cross between a jacket and a layer, plus it's incredibly versatile. So, what is a blanket scarf and how can we wear it? Read on to learn all about it!
WHAT IS A BLANKET SCARF?
A blanket scarf is nothing more than an oversized scarf that can be used as a wrap. Don't let the fancy name trick you- there's really not that much to it! However simple the definition is, this piece is far from basic. It's incredibly versatile and can be worn a multitude of ways!
BLANKET SCARF VS PONCHO
What is the difference between a blanket scarf and a poncho? Well, both are big trends this season and while they have their similarities, they are different. The best way to differentiate between the two is the following: a blanket scarf is an open layer of fabric that is wrapped around you, while a poncho is a closed layer of fabric that either goes over your head or is wrapped and held in place by a toggle or clasp.
HOW TO WEAR A BLANKET SCARF
While you can belt it or clasp it with a pretty brooch, my favorite way to wear a blanket scarf is draped. Here are a few tips on how to wear a draped blanket scarf while still looking polished and together!
DRESS UP YOUR LOOK
A blanket scarf can be tricky to wear draped because it can look like just that- a blanket! You definitely don't want to look like you just rolled out of bed, so I recommend dressing up the rest of your look to compensate for the comfort-vibe the scarf gives off.
HOW?
The fool-proof way to dress it up is to pair it with a dress or skirt! A blanket scarf would look fabulous with a sheath dress, in particular. For my look, I went with a layered look and paired it with a basic black tee, a tweed a-line skirt, and an oversized classic belt.
If you prefer jeans, I recommend a pair of dark wash skinny or boot-cut jeans with a classic leather riding boot or ankle boot. It's a bonus if the boot is heeled!
