"Things that I grew up with stay with me. You start a certain way, and then you spend your whole life trying to find a certain simplicity that you had. It's less about staying in childhood than keeping a certain spirit of seeing things in a different way..." - Tim Burton

Trends, like boyfriends, come and go. You find one you like, try it on for a season, and move on to the next. Occasionally, something tells you "stick with this one". So, while everyone else puts their hand back in the rotation, you stubbornly hold on. You decide not to put the piece in storage or consignment. It becomes a part of your personal style, represents who you are.

For me, accessories reminiscent of childhood are the hardest to drop. Bright coats, frilly socks, even something as simple as these metal animal ears. These in particular have become a part of my whimsical persona and I wear them whenever appropriate. If inappropriate, I wear them anyway.

Anyhow, they seemed a perfect addition to this outfit I wore for a walk in the park with my husband - another item I refused to store away.

Both make me smile.
