This favorite summer time wear companion adds the right touch of light to every ensemble. It has an old soul that is felt even in today’s wardrobe. Whatever shape it takes, this dress has a rich and lengthy history of practicality and fashion.
How did the little white dress (LWD) emerge into today’s fashion? Some of the earliest accounts date back to the 18oo’s the little white dress took root as a fashion staple. Worn around the house, this comfort garment was created from muslin and often showed some type of intricate lacework, pin tucks or mother of pearl buttons. In more formal settings, the LWD was created from silk and other fine fabrics. In 1842 Queen Victoria started the trend of wearing a white dress to wed. Over time hemlines shortened and the lines were worn a bit closer to the silhouette line. Much like in society today, wearing the LWD signified purity and innocence while offering the perfect color to wear during female rites of passage.
Fast Forward to 2015. The LWD in summer offers great care-free comfort while adding a touch of light to even the edgiest ensemble. Partnered with a leather jacket, open-toed shoes and the right silver touches this dress takes on a new persona. Comfort is key when preparing for a busy day, this linen frock offers endless hours of worry-free wear while working through an event filled day and even when the weather suddenly changes. Getting caught in the rain while walking home can be a great experience when wearing the right little white dress. The value of this garment for summer is priceless!
