I was recently asked to do a review on one of Seventh Generation’s new Boosts serums. These serums are plant oil based, vegan and safe for sensitive skin. They are meant to counteract the stripping of protective oils that can be caused by harsh cleansers and toners. They are so gentle that you can even use them around your eyes.

There are six different serums; each addressing a specific skin care concern (you can visit the Seventh Generation site and take a quiz to find the best match for you).

- Soothing
- Revitalising
- Protecting

- Hydrating
I tested the firming serum, which contains Baobab and Brown Algae to promote increased firmness and elasticity, for ten days. Because the product is oil based, it obviously goes on oily. The first night I tried the firming serum I didn’t care for the feeling on my skin. When I have used oils on my face in the past, they’ve made me itchy and this product was no exception. By the second night however, the itchy feeling was gone. I haven’t been using this product long enough to see any actual firming results but if you’re a regular follower of this blog, you’ll know I recently tried a line of products that didn’t agree with my skin. The products dried me out, causing red patches that weren’t fading quickly. After a couple nights of using this product those red marks were almost gone.
Since I’ve started using the firming serum my skin is looking softer, a little smoother and I don’t know if I’m imagining this, but I swear my pores look smaller. The product did not cause me to breakout or irritate my skin. The serum does not absorb quickly and because I have an oily t-zone, I thought I wouldn’t be able to wear it under makeup, but I was pleasantly surprised. In my natural look photo (below), I am wearing only the serum on my face under primer and sheer foundation. My skin felt just as hydrated as if I was wearing my regular moisturizer and as you can see, there was no oily residue. When I use it at night, my skin does feel oily but the serum is fully absorbed by morning, leaving my skin feeling and looking softer. One thing I don’t like is that it doesn’t apply as easily as a water based serum, I need 2-3 pumps to cover my face and neck which means I will run out faster.
These serums are exclusively sold at Walgreens or online at Drugstore.com. The retail price is $15 but walgreens has a coupon right now for $3 off.
