Palm Prints and Off Shoulder

Today at STYLEanthropy, I’m sharing this beautiful palm leaf print off shoulder top. I love palm prints – okay, obsessed may be the right term. See subject A and subject B. I just made 5 palm print pillows the other day, and may have made 1 clutch, 2 makeup pouches and 1 tote too. And yeah, those are on sale at my Poshmark closet, user myfashionjuice. Sorry for the shameless plug. But anyway, now, I am sharing subject C. I didn’t really care that it was a home fabric. I knew it would be perfect for the volume I was going for. So lo and behold, an over the top palm print off shoulder blouse… made by me!

It’s my first attempt… ever… to sew a top. I was being ambitious, trying to sew an off shoulder style! I didn’t take any sewing classes but watched my Mom sew curtains, bedsheets, table cloths and dresses back when I was a kid. So please forgive me, this top isn’t perfect at all, but I love it anyway!

I thought about different ways to style this top. Since it was a lot of volume already, I thought about toning it down with something refined and sleek in the bottom. This would look great with some cigarette pants in black or white. On the other hand, I knew that by pairing it with another voluminous piece, say a puffy maxi skirt, it would create a lot of drama – something I wanted for a different venue for this shoot. But last minute, we had a change of plans. And because it was too hot, 88 F in Pittsburgh (sorry Texas, I know it’s way hotter there in the 100s), I opted for a shorter skirt instead.

To create an hourglass shape, I cinched the skirt with a belt. I kept everything minimal since my blouse is already over the top. That means pairing it with all black everything, refined bag, simple necklace and nothing on the arms, guys. That’s something new! I did, however, wore some statement fringe earrings.
