Lavender In Bloom

When I was around 12 years old, I remember reading in Seventeen magazine that lavender is a universally flattering color.

I can’t tell you exactly why—but for some reason that little tidbit stuck with me for 13 years, and was the first thing that came up when I sat down to write this post. It’s funny how things stick with you that way, especially when you’re young.

However, I still think that style rule in particular is true. There isn’t a single person I’ve met who can’t pull off lavender. Maybe it isn’t your hue of choice, but that doesn’t stop it from complementing your skin tone.

If anything, lavender is certainly the easiest pastel to pull off.

Mint, sorbet, and powder pink are challenging to many. Pale lemon can be downright disastrous on the wrong complexion—ie mine.

Baby blue looks lovely on many, but it lacks the sophistication of lavender. In my opinion, women (and men!) of any age can wear the color without it looking too young or too severe.

All of this being said, I couldn’t resist this dress from BCBG when I was shopping Bloomingdale’s Friends & Family Sale this weekend. I had been wanting a lavender dress for some time, and I fell in love with this one’s grecian like cut and flowing silhouette.

My boyfriend seemed to approve of the dress, too In his own words, “You look like Kate Upton in the Game of War commercials!”— I’ll take it!
