Growing up as a child I was taught to always take good care of my appearance and wear nice clothes, even when I take down the trash or shop for groceries, but even when I'm home - 'cause you know, you never know who might ring the doorbell. My husband says this might have irreversibly damaged me (and he's probably right haha). Some might think that not going out without makeup or decent clothing is a sign of insecurity, which, I assure you, it is not. It is just a question of looking adequate in any situation and being respectful to your fellow human beings who come in touch with you during the day.
With that being said, it's clearly impossible to be at the top of your game every day. Tons of things might happen to you that will spoil your mood, like having to wake up before 11 am, your hair not cooperating, breaking a nail or two, cleaning up cat vomit first thing in the morning or realizing that you still have to wait a month for the Game of Thrones season premiere... Anyway, what I'm saying is: you need a good set of wardrobe basics for those situations when you just cannot manage to put together even a mildly creative outfit, but still want to look like you care.
Today's outfit features pretty much all of my basics:
- A beanie hat (Hair's not cooperating, remember?)
- A white button-down shirt ('cause it goes with everything)
- A black leather biker jacket ('cause it's cool. And goes with everything.)
- A pair of straight leg jeans. Not skinny, not flared, not boyfriend -straight.
- Boots with a chunky heel. They're comfortable, but they will make you look like you care.
- A nice handbag.
- Ray Ban aviators - an absolute must, they make anyone look like a movie star.
