Birds of a feather...flock together. Today's look is centered entirely around the feather skirt that is featured within this post. Now, you may ask, where did I buy the skirt? I didn't buy the skirt from a store; I DIY'ed the skirt two years ago for my twentieth birthday. I knew the look I wanted to go for at the time but, I couldn't find the skirt anywhere. I looked in both the brick and mortar stores and did some online shopping. If I found a feather skirt, it was either too over priced or it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. So I thought I would make it myself. I researched some videos and looked on blogs for those who had some advice on making a skirt like this one. Then, I bought my materials consisting of two or three black feather boas, black thread, and a plain black skirt (from H&M). I asked my grandmother for some help being that she had some experience with sewing and we created this. For about $30 I created my dream feather skirt and it was exactly what I wanted. Comparing my creation to the skirts that are offered by a retailer, I found that mine was a lot fuller and was a lot more comfortable than the ones I tried on in the store.

Going back to the look birds of a feather, I wanted to have fun with this outfit. I didn't want any subtle elements. Working from the top to the bottom, I chose a black and white polka dot button down, my black DIY skirt, and studded converses. To finish it off, I wore a black quilted leather jacket with gold zippers, gold jewelry, and a black bucket bag. Every item that I chose has a sort of loud element to it: polka dots, studs, zippers, quilted textures, and to top it off feathers. While all of the elements are striking on their own, they seem to work well together.

One last item that I want to focus on is the bucket bag. I ordered this bag online from Forever21 for $30. The instant I saw it, I clicked add to bag, and before I knew it, it was at my doorstep. It is one of my favorite purchases and it looks exactly like a Mansur Gavriel that retails for about $500. It is black on the outside with a bright red coloring on the inside, just like Gavriel's. I checked back on Forever21's website about a week after I received my package to see if they had any other colors, and the handbag I purchased was sold out. To this day, they are still sold out and hasn't gotten a replenishment, but bucket bags are sold everywhere, being that they are on trend. If you haven't found yours, keep looking because there are tons out there!
