When it comes to skincare, things are serious. Being the largest organ of your body says a great deal as to why you should put it as a priority. I love doing DIY skincare because I know what ingredients are being used. Other than that, I get really excited when I discover natural brands. Keep on reading to find out many ways to use coconut oil, and new products I am loving at the moment.
There are various ways that you can use coconut oil. You probably know that it's in numerous body washes for it's hydrating aspect. But there's more.
- You can use it to moisturize your lips. It serves as an awesome lip balm that can help protect your lips from being cracked because of the dry weathers. Some coconut oil based lip balms even contain SPF to combat the sun's rays too.
Similar to tea tree oil - coconut oil also has anti-fungal properties that can fight any sort of fungal infection. Also, if you're feeling a pimple arise (also known as the worst feeling ever), dab some on to kill the zit causing bacteria.
After a heavy work out or a long day at work - your muscles are probably pretty sore. You're also probably pretty tired too. Coconut oil can help soothe the tired and sore areas. Rub some coconut oil on those sore areas, or better yet - have someone else do it for you.
Throughout the day, grime is making its way into your pores not allowing your skin to breathe; coconut oil makes a fantastic cleanser that is effective even for those with more sensitive skin.
Add some sugar and lime to your coconut oil and you have DIY facial brightening exfoliator that will help remove all of your dead skin cells – keeping your face fresh and clean.
Don’t avoid wearing black because you have dandruff – massage some coconut oil into the scalp to ease the symptoms and help with the itch.
Instead of using eye makeup remover that has alcohol content - which causes your skin to dry out - use coconut oil. It removes oil-based makeup easily (including mascara), and leaves a nice glow.
Generously rub coconut oil throughout your hair and in your scalp as hair treatment. Secure it with plastic wrap for 20 minutes, rinse, and then feel your newly hydrated hair.
New skincare products that I am obsessing over:
Seventh Generation is a new brand featuring products that: absorb quickly, free of parabens and synthetic fragrances, clinically proven hypoallergenic, and lightweight. With active botanicals, rosemary, baobab and peppermint it strengthens and firms my skin. I add two pumps along with my trusty Lush Tea Tree toner.
Disclosure: I received a free sample of this product from Lucky and Seventh Generation for use in connection with this blog.
This facial scrub from The Face Shop is filled with two vital ingredients that help exfoliate and hydrate at the same time: sugar and honey. It's perfect to use after a long day at the beach or before you decide to put on your weekly masks.
