All Natural Style Secrets

Hey, friends!  There’s a saying around our house that has become almost a motto for our family.

Less is more.

We first starting saying this when we realized that our home was being overtaken by clutter.  I had just visited with a friend who had a new apartment and far less “stuff” than I did, and I found myself feeling so relaxed and peaceful in that clean, open space.  Hubby and I got out some boxes and started packing up knick-knacks, dust-collectors, and things that just didn’t need to be out on display.  And we loved the effect.

I’ve since learned that not only is “Less is more” a good motto for home decorating, it’s also a great style tip!  Sure, sometimes it’s fun to go wild with crazy colors and prints or bright red lipstick and heels, but when we’re talking about everyday beauty, a natural approach can be really fabulous.

Here are a few of my best Natural Style Secrets:

1. Use makeup to enhance your natural features and make them the focus.

The best makeup applications are the ones that cause people to see your natural gorgeousness shining through rather than getting distracted by caked-on layers or electric blue eye shadow.  For a casual, every day look, choose a tinted moisturizer that matches your skin color, a light dusting of bronzer, and a neutral palette for your eye shadow.  A quick coat of mascara will draw attention to your eyes, and you can finish off the look with a neutral lip gloss.

2. Stay hydrated and feed your body good things!

By drinking lots of water, you help to keep your body and skin healthy.  Eating fresh fruits and vegetables and making sure your body is getting the vitamins it needs contributes to your overall health, not to mention your energy level and appearance.  Make sure you have healthy options on hand for snacking and that you keep yourself hydrated!  It’s easier than you think to incorporate fresh vegetables into some of your favorite meals, like this Chicken and Veggie Alfredo. What you put into your body affects how it feels AND looks…when you’re healthy and hydrated on the inside, your skin is too.

3. Try out an all-natural skin care product.

Not everything I use on my skin is all-natural.  But I recently started using this Hydrating serum from Seventh Generation, and I’m liking it!  Here’s what it does {from the Seventh Generation website}: Hydrating Boost is specially formulated to provide all-day moisture to help relieve and protect against chapping, cracking and roughness due to dryness. Jojoba, Acai and Passion flower oils help restore your skin’s natural moisture balance for noticeably softer, more radiant skin.  This serum doesn’t clog pores {yay!}, is hypoallergenic {double yay!}, and is free of parabens, phthalates and synthetic  fragrances.  All you do is use 1-2 pumps a day, either directly on your face or mixed in with your moisturizing lotion.  If your skin isn’t in particular need of hydration, these boosts are also available to meet other skin care needs: Soothing, Revitalizing, Clearing, Firming, and Protecting.

4. Keep it Simple, Sister!

If you’re anything like me, you may sometimes be tempted to over-accessorize.  Instead, it can be really fun to work with basic, solid colors, classic lines and silhouettes, and let one particular statement piece be the focal point.  Know what I mean?  Pick one accessory you really love and let it do the talking.
